I went in yesterday morning at 9:15am for my surgery. I had to lost 10 pounds in 10 days before, so that my liver would shrink, since it sits right over your stomach. I lost 8 pounds, which was enough, since I did the diet for the whole 10 days. I was kind of nervous about how much I had lost, because my scale at home said I didn't lose that much, but I'll take what theirs said :)
Needless to say, they took me back into the operating room at about 10 and I woke up in recovery at 11:30! It was must faster than I thought it would be. I woke up in good spirits and wasn't in too much pain at all. I would've gave my pain about a level 2! So much less than I was expecting, which was a very good thing! They had me up and walking around in 30 minutes, which felt amazing.
I stayed at the clinic for the night. The worst part, where I had the most pain was in my shoulders. They say its totally normally because they fill up your abdomen with air so they can move around in there. So my shoulders are what is bugging me the most. I got to come home at 7:30 this morning, after they did an x-ray and I had to drink some nasty dye so they could make sure there were no leaks. I've just been sleeping on and off all day, and doing my small walks all day. My incisions, there are 5 of them, and their about the size of a button hole on a man's shirt, they're starting to bug me a little bit.
I'm on a clear liquid diet for the first 3 days, then I can start to have jello and pudding until 2 weeks. After that I get to have foods that I can easily mash up with a fork, so eggs, cottage cheese, bananas etc.
Right now, I'm sleeping on the couch, laying flat hurts my stomach, and I don't want to chance waking up on my stomach (ouch!) so I'm on the couch for now. I took a shower tonight, which felt amazing! William says I look like I got shot in the stomach. Trying to keep the dogs off my stomach is kind of hard, especially with Norma, but hopefully she will stop trying to get on top of me.
And for anyone that thinks I took the easy way out...this is totally the opposite of easy. I am totally changing the way I eat for my entire life. This is just a tool that will help me. I can easily gain the weight back if I don't eat like I'm supposed to. I was so sick of doing diet after diet after diet and exercising and getting no results. Or if I magically did get some results, I'd gain it right back.
I cannot wait to see what 2014 holds for me. I can't wait to go to any store I want to buy clothes! That is going to feel amazing. I'm going to put a link up for a video of the surgery I had (its not mine) but I found it pretty awesome to see. My surgery, they basically cut off and take out about 2/3 of your stomach. So it goes from about the size of a football to the size of a banana. When I can go back to eating normal food, I can eat 1/2 cup of food at a time, and I have to take 20 minutes to eat that. I can't drink anything while I'm eating either. Which is going to be so hard for me, because I'm a huge drinker while I'm eating. No more carbonated beverages either, because they are full of gas and that will inflate your stomach and it'll never go back to the same size that it was.
I will be updating this blog hopefully every few days (see how good I am at it) and I'll post pictures. I want to say thank you to everyone for being so supportive, I didn't really know what to expect from everyone, but I didn't really care either, I'm doing this for me and nobody else. I want to get healthy and William and I really want a baby in the future. And this will just help me in all aspects of my life.
This is super long, so here is the link for the surgery. I didn't think it was all that bad, but if you can't handle it, don't watch it haha :)
